star wars lego cake
My most recent cake order was for an eight year old birthday party....star wars lego theme! My boys had their first lesson on Star Wars characters. Jonas was running around the house saying, "d2, d2."
Great cake! Is the entire cake made out of fondant? Or is the body of the cake whip cream or butter cream and the writing and characters on fondant? Whenever I try to stick fondant shapes on my whipped cream cake, they call off. My nephews birthday is this weekend and his theme is Star Wars. We're making a cake with whip cream but I'm trying to figure out how to do the writing. I like this idea but am wondering how you did yours.
Carol, the entire cake is iced with a buttercream icing. I then added fondant decorations. The Star Wars words are white on black fondant, gray fondant legos for the bottom border of top tier, gray fondant balls for bottom border of bottom tier and all figures are sculpted fondant figures. Whenever I attach fondant decorations to buttercream icing, I always apply water to the back with a small paintbrush so the decoration will stick and attach them while they are still soft so that their shape can conform to the roundness of the cake. Hope that helps!
i understand all was fondant, but did you use stencils to create the star wars words? trying to do this for my son and that might be the only trouble i have is the words on it
do you make these for others? I got online to get ideas for cakes and yours was the first I saw and I think we both live in Nashville/my son goes to OC preschool ;)

That cake is awesome!
Thats is awesome! Can I ask you what you used to mold the characters?
Erin, I did not use a mold. I sculpted them all using fondant. Hope that helps!
This cake is STUNNING!!!! I love it!!! I have two Star Wars-lovin' boys who would go absolutely NUTS if I made one of those!
